Associate Professor Suman Majumdar

Chief Health Officer at Burnet Institute

Associate Professor Suman Majumdar is Chief Health Officer and a principal research fellow at the Burnet Institute, where he leads the Know-C19 program on pandemic preparedness and airborne pathogens. An infectious diseases physician and researcher who has led regional programs in tuberculosis and served as Victorian Deputy Chief Health Officer during the COVID-19 response (2021–23), he works in partnership with people, communities, organisations and governments, integrating care delivery, public health and research.

Suman initiated the Clean Indoor Air Consortium, bringing together public health experts, engineers and aerosol scientists across leading Australian institutions. He leads two major translational projects on indoor air: the Pathway to Clean Indoor Air project which develops scalable solutions for community-based indoor air quality improvement and the ELUCIDAR study, a large cluster-randomised trial of germicidal ultraviolet (GUV) light to reduce respiratory infections in aged care.
